Vet Med Life

T.G.I.F. It has been an exhausting week and the studying is never ending; I have my Parasit exam Monday. I have @ least 1 exam every week until the first week in November, URGH! Also, I found out that my dog, Buster, cannot be a blood donor because his blood type is A positive. Unlike humans, dog's blood is either A positive or negative. A negative is the universal blood donor type and only 40% of dogs have it. One of cats, Dipstick, was tested too but his results aren't back yet. So its back to studying & catching up on the season premieres I've taped.

Well today was no exception in the exam department. My Pharm exam was from 10am-11am & @ 11am 97% of my class, including me, was not done with the exam! What does this mean....the 2 homework assignments & practice question didn't do all that much in preparing us from the professors exam. Oh and I forgot to mention that the A/C fan was broke in our wing of school so it was extremly hot. Keep your fingers crossed that the professor does something about the test.

Today was my Path exam which had a lab portion & a written portion. The lab portion went well but the written was a little tricky. One definitely benefits tape recording his lectures because one little word could be worth 1 point on the exam & that word is no where to be found in the lecture outline notes.

Today I had a Bacti exam, which was pretty straightword, but darn those true/false questions.

My first year of vet school flew by! It seems just like yesterday I received my blue lab coat and was welcomed into the veterinary profession. Let me just say that I have learned that the hardest thing about vet school is not getting in! Also, you must change your mind set the first day of vet school: "C's" are okay and your fellow classmates are there for you to learn from and study with...they are no longer your competitors for that highest grade!

Well second year is 3 weeks underway and it has been okay. Bacteriology/Mycology is quite similar to the Micro class I had in undergrad. Pathology is quite interesting; I never realized how many types of necroses there are. Parasitology is interesting in that I have learned that what I was taught in practice about rounds, hooks, coccidia, and giardia was not exactly accurate. Pharmacology I find rather interesting despite reviewing passive & facilitated diffusion for the 1 millionth time. Epidemiology is recalling the Biometry & Stats courses I took in undergrad. Jurisprudence is rather informative; I never knew there were so many laws/acts that pertained to veterinary medicine/animals. My electives are Bereavement & Shelter Medicine, both of which have been excellent so far.
